To the Holy Cross Neighborhood:
This week is Hanukkah, marking the Jewish celebration of the re-dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem after its destruction. There was only enough oil to last for one night, to fuel the eternal flame in the Temple. Miraculously, the oil burned for eight days, which was the length of time it took to press and prepare fresh olive oil. The eternal light never had to be extinguished.
This story reminds me of the work you do in New Orleans. There are slim resources, but you all are in it for the long haul, remaining a light for community members and providing wisdom, work ethic and guidance to our volunteers. Thank you for all you do to transform your community. I'm working everyday to live up to the same standard in the Jewish community.I hope you have a happy and relaxing holiday season.
Sincerely,
Mae Singerman
