Dwell, one of the nation's top architecture magazines, stopped by this week to learn more about Historic Green and its work in Holy Cross and the Lower Ninth Ward. In his "New Orleans Report: Greening the Ninth Ward", Michael Cannell, editorial director of dwell.com, writes:
"I had never intended to view the devastation of the Lower Ninth Ward from the darkened windows of a stretch limousine driven by a local preacher. In one of the most improbable tours imaginable, Pastor Gilbert Scie, who moonlights as a chauffeur, drove me out of the ward yesterday after I had spent part of the afternoon with a group that is working to make parts of the Lower Ninth Ward the first carbon-neutral neighborhood in America."
At Greater Little Zion Baptist Church, Cannell also spoke with Ryan Evans, one of the event organizers, who explained his reasons for being in New Orleans over spring break. You can listen to the interview here.
