Holy Cross Project: The Promise Ahead

By now, millions have gotten a sneak peek at the new Global Green/Holy Cross Project at Andry & Douglass streets in the Lower Ninth Ward. So what's next? Construction crews and the rest of the project team are hard at work to complete the first of five single-family residences this fall. It will serve as a model home and visitor center during construction of the remaining houses. In total, the 1.5-acre site will be composed of five homes, an 18 multi-unit apartment complex and a community center.

The project's goal is to achieve LEED Platinum/net zero energy/carbon neutral buildings. Sustainable design elements include solar panels, green roofs, passive heating and cooling, rain water harvesting, geothermal, energy and resource monitoring systems, and energy-efficient appliances.

For more on the design schemes and floorplans, see the winning GREEN.O.LA design. Additional background on work in progress, the Sustainable Design Competition and Global Green’s New Orleans initiatives can be found at The Holy Cross Project.
